Adjustable Dog Raincoat – Hooded Pet Jacket

How to Measure Your Dog for a Raincoat

A raincoat should fit your dog's chest, neck and back while leaving room to walk comfortably. Start with those three measurements, then compare the chart for the exact coat you want. A familiar size label or a breed photo cannot tell you whether another style will fit.

This guide explains how to measure, compares four JubelPets raincoat options and uses the adjustable hooded jacket as a worked sizing example.

Take three measurements before choosing a size

Use a soft tape, or string that you can measure against a ruler. Have your dog stand naturally on a level surface. Keep the tape close to the body without pressing into the coat, repeat each measurement, and record the units. Write down the body measurements before adding any room specified by a particular fitting guide.

  1. Chest: measure around the widest part, usually just behind the front legs. A coat with the right back length can still be too tight here.
  2. Neck: measure around the base of the neck where the jacket opening sits. Check this separately from chest size.
  3. Back: measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Do not start at the head or extend down the tail.

Which raincoat should you compare first?

For adjustable body fastening

The Adjustable Dog Raincoat has an attached hood, back-and-shoulder coverage and an open-leg shape. Its body fastening allows adjustment, but the neck opening and back length still need to match your dog. Choose this option when you want to work from the full garment chart below its product description. Blue and Yellow options span size labels XS through 4XL, subject to availability.

For a transparent poncho style

Consider the Transparent Hooded Dog Raincoat if you prefer a transparent outer layer. Its selector includes S, M, L, XL and XXL. Compare the exact poncho measurements and hood position before choosing: transparency does not make an oversized hood a good fit. Use this model's own sizing information, even if your dog already wears another JubelPets coat.

For a hooded option with color choices

The Hooded Dog Raincoat for Small Dogs offers color-and-size combinations, including Blue, Pink and Yellow. First find a size that accommodates your dog's proportions, then choose among available colors. The words “small dogs” describe the intended category; they do not replace measurements or guarantee a fit for every small breed.

For a simple black outer layer

The Black Dog Raincoat is described as a lightweight, water-resistant layer for light rain and wet walks. Its size labels run from XS to XXL. Start here if black is your preferred color, then check chest and back coverage against this coat's measurements. Its care guidance calls for wiping clean and air drying.

Read the chart: a worked example for one coat

The table below applies only to the Adjustable Dog Raincoat. Do not use these numbers for the transparent, small-dog hooded or black raincoat. These are garment measurements, so the jacket needs comfortable room beyond your dog's body dimensions.

Selected sizes from the Adjustable Dog Raincoat garment chart
Size Chest Back Neck
S 36 cm / 14.2 in 26 cm / 10.2 in 24 cm / 9.4 in
M 44 cm / 17.3 in 32 cm / 12.6 in 27 cm / 10.6 in
L 48 cm / 18.9 in 36 cm / 14.2 in 32 cm / 12.6 in

A dog with a 44 cm chest has no chest allowance in the M garment measurement. Compare the next size's neck and back as well, rather than choosing solely by chest. The supplied chart notes approximately 2 cm of measurement variation and recommends considering the larger size between sizes. Chart labels 2XL and 3XL correspond to XXL and XXXL in the selector.

Make the final decision indoors

Try the clean coat indoors and watch your dog walk, sit and turn. Check for pulling at the shoulders, fabric in the way of toileting and a hood covering the eyes. Remove it if movement is restricted or your dog is uncomfortable. Let a wet coat dry before storage and follow the care instructions for the chosen model.

If no size matches comfortably, send us the product name and your dog's measurements before ordering. Review the return conditions before an outdoor trial. For wet-ground accessories, read how to measure and fit dog rain boots.
